Teaching Fellow: join our team of Teaching Fellows and develop your expertise in delivering high-quality literacy instruction to emergent readers and writers, especially through Structured Word Inquiry. This part-time position includes small group and 1:1 instruction in San Francisco and the East Bay. Interested? Learn more at the link below.

We generally have many opportunities throughout the year where you can support our mission — from helping out at events and workshops to office work.

Donate Books & Items

Current Needs

Your cash gifts help us:

  • enroll more learners in WordLab and ed therapy,

  • provide sliding scale support

  • send hands-on enrichment care packages to our students

  • train teachers

  • provide resources for parents

Materials and Supplies:

  • Our current Wish List has all of our greatest needs listed. We’re growing and our top need is to build out our reference materials to take to our new on-site programs. This list also has current suggestions for gift cards.

We’re always on the hunt for our next favorite book! Here’s what works best for us:

  • new or gently used condition, either paperback or hardback

  • K to 4th grade (basic readers through level M)

  • both informational and fiction

  • anything to do with nature, science, outdoors, friendship, adventures

  • diversity of representation (check out the Oakland Literacy Coalition’s resources for finding diverse books)

  • we love books that have won a Caldecott Medal, a Coretta Scott King Book Award, a Belpré Award, Newbery Medal, or really any recognition for supporting inclusion in children’s literature (check out this list of awards)
